Jill Roosevelt ’79 P’27
“During my time at St. George’s I received a great education and made many lasting friendships. As a born and bred New Yorker, the school opened my eyes to many experiences that I would not have had if I had stayed at my all-girls school in Manhattan.
My mother was very fond of SG and the friends I made there. When we lost her to cancer in 2004, we asked that gifts be made to the school in her memory. Although I had always supported the school through the St. George's Fund, this is when I first started thinking of how SG could fit into my long-term plans. As a former not-for-profit fundraiser (before becoming a real estate agent) I was familiar with estate planning strategies and ended up choosing a bequest as a way to make my memorable years on the Hilltop live on after I am gone.
Now, 45 years after my graduation, our son Archie is a freshman at SG so everything has come full circle! I spend a lot of time at the cottage we rent in Newport, so St. George’s is never far from my thoughts. I see the chapel on my jog along the Cliff Walk and run into alumni everywhere – my best friend’s husband, a fellow real estate agent, a man I sat next to at a wedding in Napa Valley – and have made many younger friends from later classes who have children the same age. As alumni, we are an ever-expanding family and I hope, that through our gifts, the school will continue to nurture young hearts and minds for many years to come."
