Sharing Our Future

Do you ever find yourself wondering what the future may look like? Such thoughts cross most people’s minds, whether it be specific to what lies ahead for future generations, or more broadly to what challenges will be faced, and what innovations may be necessary in our communities, locally or globally, in order to address these challenges.

While firmly planted in the present, St. George’s School actively thinks about what lies ahead, engaging in strategic  planning as we anticipate future needs and how best to meet them. We invite you to share in that future by considering a gift or commitment to our endowment. With such a gift, the principal is kept intact, and every year a portion of the investment return it generates is released for use.

How to contribute

Any type of gift made to St. George’s can be designated for endowment. You can make a gift during your lifetime through outright gifts of cash, securities, or other types of property, or by specifying that the remainder gift from a charitable gift annuity or charitable trust be applied to the endowment. Or, you can leave an endowment gift through a bequest in your will, a provision in your living trust, or by designating St. George’s as a beneficiary to a retirement plan, life insurance policy, or an investment account.

Putting your gift to use

There are different ways to put your endowment gift to use:

Unrestricted

Unless further designated for a specific use, gifts to endowment will be added to the unrestricted endowment of St. George’s; the income generated by these funds are used wherever the need is greatest. Contributions of any amount are acceptable for the unrestricted endowment. Unrestricted gifts to the endowment are particularly helpful to St. George’s and have a tremendous impact on all areas of school life and operations.

Restricted

You can specify your gift go to a program-specific endowment fund already established by St. George’s, e.g., financial aid support, faculty enrichment, or Geronimo, among many others. Gifts to the endowment restricted to a particular purpose or fund ensure that a program or initiative you care about will be supported in perpetuity Once again, gifts of this kind can be in any amount.

Named Fund

It is also possible to establish an endowment fund in your name, or in honor of a loved one or a significant teacher, mentor, advisor, or coach. This type of endowment requires a minimum contribution, typically $250,000 or more, depending on the purpose for which it is being established.

In all instances, but especially if you are considering a named endowment, it is best to have a conversation with us regarding your goals for the gift, so we can ensure that it will be used in the manner that you intend.

Through a gift to the endowment, both you and St. George’s can join together to make a difference for generations to come. And that is a future worth thinking about.
