Greetings, Dragon Community,
This letter is the first in a revived series of communications that will focus on planned giving and The Ogden Nash Society. First, perhaps, we should explain what the Ogden Nash Society is. The society (ONS, for short) is St. George’s way of recognizing and celebrating those who have designated the school as a beneficiary of a planned gift. A planned gift can be as simple as an estate bequest, or it could be a structured giving instrument with a clause naming the school as a beneficiary. More information on gifts like these can be found below.

Our goal with these communiques moving forward is to both celebrate and educate. Through our semiannual contact, you can look forward to profiles of members of the Ogden Nash Society, in which we will highlight why they have chosen to include the school in their estate plans. We will also be sharing information about various estate-planning options available to you, and the ways in which they can benefit you, your heirs, and St. George’s. In this issue, we provide links, below, to basic overviews of some of the most common planned gifts, and a few highlights of the ways estate gifts have impacted the school in recent years.
To underscore the important role members of the Ogden Nash Society have played in the vitality of St. George’s: Estate gifts received by the school over the last several years have provided significant support for key projects and priorities central to our mission. A sampling of just a few of these gifts include:
- A $1,000,000 bequest used to renovate the Chapel
- A $500,000 bequest endowed a financial aid fund
- A $100,000 bequest is supporting the renovation of the Arden-Diman-Eccles dormitory
Legacy gifts help provide our students with the intellectual, spiritual, and physical foundation to succeed – while helping you, your estate, and your heirs. There are several easy ways to make an impactful gift:
- Remember St. George’s in your will or trust.
- Establish a charitable gift annuity and receive income for life.
- Designate St. George's as a beneficiary for your individual retirement accounts (IRA, 401(k), 403(b), etc.), life insurance policies, bank accounts and investment accounts.
- Make a tax-free gift with an IRA Charitable Rollover Contribution.
In choosing to include St. George’s in your estate plans, you join other like-minded alumni, parents, and friends who are recognized members of the Ogden Nash Society.
If you have already included St. George’s in your plans, we hope you will let us know and allow us to count you as a member of this valued group. Whichever instrument you have selected for your giving, your partnership means so much to us. Benefits include recognition in school publications and on a plaque outside the Head of School's office; invitation to the annual Ogden Nash Society breakfast held during Alumni Weekend, and access to professional, personalized gift planning services.
I look forward to staying in touch, and I hope you’ll spend a few minutes exploring our new planned giving website to learn more. A helpful estate planning overview can be found here. In the meantime, please do reach out if you are interested in discussing a planned gift or would like additional information.
Gratefully,
Ryan W. Kirk
